Mexico international Santiago Gimenez has sustained a serious thigh injury, Feyenoord reported on Tuesday afternoon. After examinations, it was determined that the 23-year-old will be out for up to three months. He left the field after 30 minutes in the Dutch side's win over NAC Breda, and left play on a stretcher. His replacement, Ayase Ueda, swiftly opened the scoring for Feyenoord.

Ueda is expected to get his chance to impress in Gimenez's absence. He has played 1,373 minutes for Feyenoord since his arrival last summer, spread over 44 official appearances. The 26-year-old striker scored 6 goals and 3 assists.

They also have former Philadelphia Union striker Julian Carranza in their ranks – who joined from the MLS side last summer.

The Dutch club confirmed Gimenez's injury in an official statement: "Santiago Gimenez has sustained a thigh injury. Further medical examination has shown that the injury has an expected recovery period of three months."
