What to Expect from The Palworld x Ultrakill Collab
Despite having to deal with an ongoing Nintendo lawsuit, Pocketpair has promoted Palworld through a lot of major collaborations lately. Following the game’s immensely successful launch in early 2024, the studio announced in July of that year that it would be partnering up with Sony subsidiary Aniplex to create merchandise for Palworld. Then, in early 2025, Pocketpair launched the first-ever collaboration update for Palworld, which was themed around the hit 2D survival game, Terraria. Although only a few months have passed since its release, the company has already announced yet another big collab for the game.
In a surprise that no one saw coming, Palworld is going to cross over with the New Blood Interactive-published game, Ultrakill. Anyone with even a faint idea of what these two games are will know that they have almost nothing in common with each other. While Palworld is a comedic open-world sandbox game with a cutesy art style and tons of adorable-looking creatures, Ultrakill is a hyper-violent, fast-paced FPS that takes place in the darkest depths of Hell, in a future where humans are gone and nothing but blood-fueled robots remain. Pocketpair, it seems, is well aware of the tonal dissonance between Ultrakill and Palworld, but in spite of this, the company plans to add content from the former game to the latter in the future.
Like Palworld, Ultrakill is currently in early access. Even though it’s been in the works for more than 5 years, the game still has no release date.
Palworld is Getting Ultrakill-Themed Content Later This Year
In a post on Palworld‘s official Steam page, Pocketpair revealed that the game’s Ultrakill collab will feature some weapons and gear taken straight out of the hit FPS. The company didn’t exactly state what items would be introduced in this upcoming update, and it didn’t explicitly confirm or deny the possibility of it containing any other type of content. While it did reveal that it will come out later this year, Pocketpair didn’t even provide a firm release date for the upcoming crossover update, instead stating simply that players should “look forward to this unprecedented encounter.”
The Palworld x Ultrakill Collab Has a High Bar to Clear Following the Release of the Terraria Update
Although the details on the Palworld x Ultrakill collab are scant, Pocketpair has set a rather high bar for itself with the Terraria update that it recently released. Some players weren’t expecting much from the Palworld x Terraria collab when it was initially announced, but it ended up being way more ambitious than anyone anticipated. The Tides of Terraria update, as it’s officially called, not only introduced some Terraria-themed weapons and armor to Palworld, but it also featured several biomes, Pals, and even an entire dungeon inspired by the 2D indie game. Best of all, every piece of content in the update was entirely free, so players weren’t coerced into spending tons of money on microtransactions to get the items that they wanted, as is the case with many other games.
The Ultrakill Collab Probably Won't Be as Ambitious as the Terraria Update
While it would be great if Palworld‘s Ultrakill collab had a scope comparable to the Terraria one, there’s a good chance that this won’t happen, due to a few notable factors. Unlike Terraria, the enemies in Ultrakill would not mesh well at all with the world or aesthetic of Palworld, either as Pals or as miscellaneous characters. Furthermore, Ultrakill‘s somewhat industrial setting wouldn’t exactly serve as a good inspiration for a potential Palworld dungeon. Since Ultrakill‘s aesthetic and emphasis on hyper-violence clash way too much with Palworld‘s overall tone, it’s unlikely that Pocketpair will add major new content of this type.
Armor and Weapons-Wise, It's Not Hard to Imagine What the Palworld x Ultrakill Collab Will Contain
If the Palworld x Ultrakill collab really does contain nothing more than a few weapons and gear, as Pocketpair initially suggested, it would be a tad disappointing, but understandable nonetheless. Since Ultrakill only features five different gun types, namely nailguns, railcannons, rocket launchers, revolvers, and shotguns, Pocketpair may add all of them to Palworld as part of this update. The company may also introduce some armor sets that are inspired by the designs of Ultrakill‘s two main characters, V1 and Gabriel. At the end of the day, though, Palworld fans will have to wait for Pocketpair to share more info about the collab in order to get a clearer idea of what it entails.
